Features of the Motor Supply:

Direct Digital Synthesizer

A Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) is a numerically controlled oscillator generating a sinus function with mathematical accuracy. It’s the most precise oscillator known. This enables to generate an “error free” sinusoidal signal with “unlimited” frequency to drive a synchronous motor best possible way.

2-Phase Motor Supply

Such a DDS is also able to deliver a phase shifted signal by exactly 90° by calculation not only a sine but also a cosine function. Those both signals are controlling the motor supply within the PSD192M.

Crystal Stabilized Audio Time Basis

Since the DDS is working at the same rate as the DSP the motor supply has the same accuracy as the crystal stabilized audio section. This design disables any interference and other noise under all circumstances.

Maximum Torque from the Synchronous Motor

A synchronous motor delivers its maximum torque when its driving frequency equals its revolutions. From this point of view it makes sense to start with a very low frequency at the beginning and increase it continuously to reach the nominal revolutions.

Motor Driver as Switch Mode Power Supply

Looking at the PSD192M the motor driver consists of a switch mode power supply. Because of the very high efficiency of such a design no heat sink is necessary at all. And this saves also warming up and power consumption. At the same time this technology offers the opportunity to drive various output voltages. Having low voltages its enabling more current and vice versa.

Fine Tuning in Speed

The use of a DDS makes a very fine adjustment of the output frequency possible. This means a very fine tuning of the turntable motor by a step size of 0.1%. This can be obtained by the front panel buttons or by the configuration software myPSD192.

Very Wide Tuning Range

Since the DDS can generate “unlimited” frequencies a very wide tuning range is resulting. This range is set to +/-50% of the nominal frequency.

Three Different Speeds

The PSD192M in designed to offer the most common speeds of 33/45/78 RPM. They can be accessed by the three front panel buttons or by the configuration software myPSD192. All the relevant settings can be adjusted individually for all speeds. And also the is the choice of absolute and relative settings too.

Output Voltages 6V to 24V

Both two full-bridges of the motor supply deliver voltages from 6Vrms to 24Vrms. The digital driver by the DDS can be tuned in steps of 0.1Vrms.

15 Watts of Output Power

The output power of 15W is sufficient to supply the most of turntable motors. This is regardless of the selected output voltage. More the one motor can be driven in parallel as long as the maximum power is not exceeded.

Electronically Overload Protection

It goes without saying that the outputs are overload protected against each other and to ground. Also a long duration of short circuit will not harm the PSD192M. The digital electronic is monitoring the output power at all times.
